Thermomix Tips and Tricks: Peeling Garlic the Easy Way
Peeling garlic in your Thermomix is as easy as one, two, three!
- Separate from 1 to 30 cloves of garlic and drop them – unpeeled of course – into the Thermomix bowl.
- Process on Speed 4 ¼ /3 to 6 seconds/Reverse blade direction.
- Remove the skins and you’re all set!
If you’re peeling lots of garlic, the easiest way to remove the skins is by flooding the bowl with water. The skins float to the top and voilà, just skim them off!
I have to say that peeling garlic is about the most fun, most impressive and most appreciated function of the Thermomix. Home cooks and professional chefs alike benefit from the time saved. When I demonstrate peeling garlic in restaurant kitchens, it’s always the staff member responsible for peeling garlic whose eyes light up and whose face breaks into a huge grin!
The trick to peeling garlic in the Thermomix is down to the Reverse Blade function. The back of the blade is dull, allowing you to gently push ingredients around the bowl rather than blending or chopping them. In the same way that you can peel garlic by gently knocking the skins off, with reverse blade you can also cook and stir a curry or even a risotto, without blending your chunks of meat or your grains of rice!
Try peeling garlic in your Thermomix at home, adjusting speed and time until you get the results you want. You can finish up with whole peeled cloves if you stop sooner, or process that extra second and roughly chop them for use in a sauce or stew.
Thermomix is a tool and you are the genius who uses it.
Bon appétit !
