Marmite Heresy
Yesterday I committed heresy. I was so exhausted after assisting Michelin-star Chef Chris Horridge at the Thermomix Bronze Masterclass that I could only muster up a cheese and Marmite sandwich for my husband’s breakfast…
Now you’re certainly asking yourself why this would be heresy. I agree, a cheese and Marmite sandwich isn’t heresy in and of itself. But when you use cave-aged extra mature Montgomery Cheddar for that sandwich and then smother it in Marmite in your only-half-awake state, now that’s heresy!
I know my husband enjoyed his breakfast, and I only put a little bit of Marmite on the bread (promise!) but I was really too tired to be more inventive at 6.30 in the morning…
I have to say that I had an exhilarating time the day before. The Thermomix Bronze Masterclass called “Colour, texture, flavour” with Chris Horridge of the Fine Dining Academy and Thermomix Specialist Janie Turner, was a full day of hands-on Thermomix cooking, Michelin Star style. Brilliant!
Michelin Star Chef Chris Horridge, formerly Head Chef of The Bath Priory and Executive Chef of Cliveden House, is the leading chef in the UK on nutrition and healthy eating, and he pioneers the latest research in this field.
The 14 students at The Fine Dining Academy first watched Chris Horridge prepare delectable dishes in the Thermomix and then made the recipes themselves in the six Thermomixes at the school.
Dishes included Smoked Haddock Soup with a fragrant foam; Pan-fried scallops with pea purée and curry oil (the Thermomix retains all the colour and the taste of the peas due to its closed cooking container whilst blending to the finest of purées); Parmesan and truffle risotto (particularly wonderful in the Thermomix and so easy because the Thermomix does the stirring!); Mushroom ravioli with fresh pasta made in just two minutes in the Thermomix; and a delightful, airy fruit soufflée with an ever-so-easy lemon sabayon.
Based in Yattendon, Berkshire, The Fine Dining Academy offers a wide range of cookery courses for beginners and experts alike, under the tuition of Michelin Starred Chefs and the BBC’s Great British Menu Finalists Alan Murchison & Chris Horridge. They have teamed with UK Thermomix to offer a series of Thermomix cooking courses enabling Thermomix owners to “cook like the pros” who use Thermomix in their professional kitchens. Students learn how to make the most of Thermomix in their kitchen. This is an opportunity to learn new Thermomix skills and explore how Thermomix can raise menu quality to another level.
According to UK Thermomix, the next Bronze Masterclass will be held on Tuesday 31st August 2010, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. For the Bronze Masterclass no previous Thermomix experience is necessary and will suit professional chefs as well as passionate foodies. The main topics of this course will be Colour, Texture, and Flavour. During the day your hosts will help you recreate Michelin Starred recipes with ease. The proof will be in the tasting as the experience culminates in a delicious feast of your own making, being served in the beautifully styled country dining room. Lashings of laughter and wine will ensure it’s a truly memorable experience! (I can vouch for this ?)
At £195 per person, this full-day, hands-on Masterclass is a real winner! Places are limited so please contact UK Thermomix quickly to book & pay. Telephone 01344 622 344 with debit/credit card details.
“Silver” and “Gold” Masterclasses will follow at The Fine Dining Academy later in the year.
